Poster: Achieving Agricultural Sustainability through Policies that Support Multifunctional Family Farms

Erika Quendler, Federal Institute of Agricultural Economics, Rural and Mountain Research, Austria.
John Ikerd, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, United States.
Noureddin Driouech, International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies - CIHEAM Bari, Italy.

The poster depicts the link between family farms, sustainability, multifunctionality and agroecology. With this in mind, multifunctional family farming provides a much more logical model or paradigm to design and implement policies for agricultural sustainability.

This research was presented at the EAAE Seminar 175 “Wind of change” (https://eaae175.sustainabilitystandards.it/seminar/), 13th and 14th May 2021. The seminar aimed to improve understanding of sustainability standards and their effects on agricultural, food, and bio-based value chains.

This contribution fitted nicely into the thematic of the seminar since multifunctionality and family farming together form an essential pillar in the political framework supporting sustainability standards.
